Getting a place with a back yard was something we weren’t expecting, so when we found out that this place actually has a massive area (for a small town) behind it we were ecstatic.
Here’s a pic of our back yard as-is:
As you can see, lots of big avocado trees. They also planted a few large plants called “tree apples” (manzana de arbol), some mandarin orange trees, and some papaya trees (or plants, depending on your definition of a tree).
I’d love to put a campfire area back here. I’ve swept out a path to an open area and cleared away the jungle mulch to outline the area I’d like to use.
I should probably also mention that I’ve yet to ask permission from our landlord but at this point there’s nothing permanent…
Anyway the area here is at a bit of an incline so I was thinking of digging the soil on the high side and moving it to the low side to make a bit of a “pad”. Then I’d like to line the area with rocks. Maybe I’ll line the path with rocks too if I can find enough of them.
I was thinking for seating it would be nice if I could have some log benches, where the tops would be cut flat. I’ll have to see if I can borrow a chain saw or something… I don’t know if I’m up for that much manual labor if all I can find is a hand saw…
So for this project I’m going to have to figure out how to ask permission from my Spanish landlord, hopefully find a chain saw or something like it, find some nice rocks and do some digging. I’m hoping that this can be a two day project, but we’ll see how it goes.
